The next two weeks, we are looking at minding gaps between addictions (any genre) and the social stigma in church. Currently we are looking for resources. Do you know any websites, organizations, programs designed to help addicts? Leave a link or a name in the comments. For those who contribute to this effort, click here for a special prize.

Compulsive shopping! At first I found this funny, but I didn't realize how serious it is. This is a link to an online support group.

How DID Carman sell records? He is THE epitome of the terrible music that dominated the contemporary Christian scene before groups like Caedmon's Call, the Newsboys, and Third Day changed things.

Bobby!
Thanks for letting me experiance the breifest brotherly love in the history of the "Harding Hug". Anna and I had a great trip to Searcy. We ate at Midnight Oil 3 times (half of our meals). It was a great reunion of kindred spirits. I heard you were in Nashville recently. Thanks for giving me a call. As for seeing Dan, I see him everytime Stephanie comes into town. Speaking of Stephie, I am going to Chicago for Halloween.

I don't have a web site for addictions. But I do have an important topic that needs to be discussed with Seniors especially... "Building Community After Graduation... By Yourself."

I watched,"Dodgeball" last night when the girls were asleep and I was up folding clothes (we get free HBO for one more month, I don't think I could ever pay to actually see some of these movies they show) and decided that you and Vince Vaughn could be twins.  Just thought I'd let you know.  Love, your cousin that blogs

i wish we could be more compassionate towards those who are different, even if it's with sexual orientation.  not approving, but not so quick to condone and look down on.  i work w/ a couple of homosexuals, one who truly believes he is a woman trapped in a man's body.  he knows i am a follower of Christ, and he thinks i'm living in a little world of disillisionment and he always says how sorry he is for me b/c i believe such non-sense.  he's quirky, he's hilarious, and i love him.  i don't laugh at him or look down on him, and i think b/c i am also not immaturely shocked by him that he respects me.  and he's told me that before as well.  could we please learn true compassion.  could we please as Phillip Yancy said in "What's so Amazing about Grace", "in a wounded world strive to see the sick and the maimed, not as hot spots of contamination, but as potential reservoirs of God's mercy."  i know a drag queen.  and the only difference is that i have given my life to Christ and he has not.  otherwise we are both sinners....i am saved by Grace.

bobby,
in response to your post on my blog- you needn't worry! The entire seminar was recorded and recordings will be available through the Honors College. Also, we hope to place one in the library for everyone's use. It was quite productive- 212 people came, and after an hour and half 45 still chose to stay for more questions. Definitely something others should listen to. I got a list of email addresses of students interested in starting an informal interest group to help support an orphanage and develop penpal relationships, and will be considering how to best pursue that (we'll probably have a meeting after thanksgiving).

Hey Bobby,
Regarding Carmen, I actually heard him live when I was about 9 or 10. He would go around and do free concerts, then take a "love offering". It was all pre-recorded music with him singing to a CD, so it was pretty crappy. The only song I liked was "Witch's Invitation". Mostly because it freaked me out. In general, not that impressive.

I haven't been very keen on contemporary Christian music ever since I worked at a guitar store in Nashville (a major headquarters of Christian music). I met a lot of guys who had either made it or were trying to, and so many of them were scumbags I never could find much use for the whole genre after that. (ask me sometime and I'll tell you some stories)

I'm impressed how quickly you hunted my blog down. Later,
Mark <><
